Onsite
On-Site messages let you reach visitors while they browse your website, with pop-ups, banners, sticky bars, subscription forms, surveys, gamification, recommendations, and interactive content that promote offers, collect feedback, grow your contact lists, and drive conversions. You design the content once here, in Content > Marketing > On-Site, and then use it in your campaigns.
How On-Site works
- Create your content on this screen, using the no-code Visual Editor or the code-based HTML Editor.
- Test and publish it so it is ready for use.
- Add it to a campaign: This is what actually shows the message to your visitors.
Content is not displayed until you use it in a campaignThis screen only creates and stores your On-Site content. Creating or publishing content here does not display anything on your website by itself. The message reaches visitors once you use the content in a campaign. Displaying On-Site messages also requires the SDK to be integrated on your website (see the Web SDK section of the Developer Guide).
Step 1: Create new On-Site content
- Go to Content > Marketing > On-Site.
- Click the New button in the top-right corner.
- In the Select a Type pop-up, choose your editor: Visual Editor or HTML Editor.

Select a Type
Which editor should I choose?
| Visual Editor | HTML Editor | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Building messages quickly from ready-made templates, without code | Designing the layout from scratch, with full control over every element |
| What you get | A template gallery covering pop-ups, banners, sticky bars, subscription forms, surveys, gamification, recommendations, and stories | A code editor where you build the message in custom HTML and tailor it exactly to your brand; you can also switch to the drag-and-drop BEE Editor |
| Skills needed | None | HTML/CSS |
Step 2: Design your message
If you chose the Visual Editor
You start by picking a template. The Template Gallery tab is organized into nine groups; the Saved Templates tab holds the templates your team has saved, with an All / Created by Me filter.
| Template group | Templates | Use it to |
|---|---|---|
| Blank Layout | Basic Sticky Bar (text + CTA link), Sticky Bar (image + text + button), Image Bar (image only), Horizontal Popup (image + text + buttons), Vertical Popup (image + text + buttons), Image Popup (image only), CTA Image Popup (background image + button), Video Popup (video only), Subscription Popup (subscription form) | Show announcements and promotions in the format you need |
| Subscription | Email Subscription, SMS Subscription, Collect Leads with NPS, Collect Leads with Rating | Encourage visitors to subscribe with e-mail or SMS, and collect leads with NPS or rating surveys |
| Feedback | Survey, NPS (Net Promoter Score), Rating | Get feedback with a single question, or measure visitor satisfaction and loyalty |
| Gamification | Countdown to Win, Scratch to Win, Spin to Win | Boost engagement with urgency and instant-reward mechanics |
| Recommendation (Beta) | Recommendation Widget, Search Widget | Show product recommendations and smart search; the widgets are reusable across campaigns |
| Inline Personalization | Inline, Story, Inline Image | Personalize website areas to your visitors' preferences, craft a Story experience, or personalize banners with images, messages, and CTAs |
| Custom | Custom Inline | Create your own inline content with HTML, CSS, or JS |
| Integration | Typeform Popup | Embed a Typeform form as a pop-up |
| Product Box | Dynamic Carousel, Static Carousel | Showcase products in an image + text + button carousel |
After you pick a template, you customize it directly in the Visual Editor; every displayed option can be edited, and you can preview the message for desktop and mobile as you design.
If you chose the HTML Editor
- Fill in the General section: give the content a Name, keep or change the Folder it is saved in, and add an optional Description. Click Next.
- Build your message in the Content section. You work in two tabs: HTML Editor (your code) and Preview (what visitors will see). Use the Insert menu to add Customization Tags, an Image URL, or Dynamic Content; you can also switch to the drag-and-drop BEE Editor, change between vertical and horizontal views, and expand the editor to full screen.
- Under Select Layout, choose how the message appears on your website:
- Popup: a modal over the page content. You can set the pop-up width, let visitors dismiss it by clicking outside it, add a close button, and adjust the overlay color.
- Banner: a bar over the page content. You can set its layout position and keep it in place while visitors scroll.
Working with draftsYour edits are saved as a draft alongside the live content, so you can keep working safely. Save Draft to continue later, Test it to check exactly what will be published, and Publish when it is ready for use in your On-Site campaigns.
Step 3: Add languages (optional)
To create the same message in more languages, click Add Languages and choose:
- Copy from Content: start from the existing content and translate it, or
- Create Blank Content: start the language version from scratch.
A pop-up then prompts you to select and apply the language. The languages offered are the ones activated in Settings > Campaign Configurations > Content Languages, where the default language is also set; content always starts from the default language. Visitors see the version matching the page language first, then the browser language, and the default language if neither matches. To save or publish, all mandatory fields must be completed in every added language. Each item's languages are shown in the listing, and you can filter the listing by language.
Step 4: Test your message
Before publishing, you should always preview and test:
- While designing, use the Preview to see how your content will appear, and switch between desktop and mobile views.
- Open the content and click the Test button in the top-right corner. You can:
- See on your website: view the content directly on your live site to check its placement and interactions.
- Send test on-site message: send a test version to verify how it works and looks before going live.
- Show another: switch to another variation, where applicable.
Step 5: Publish
Publishing makes your content ready to be used in campaigns. The listing shows each item's status:
- Draft: still being worked on, not available to campaigns yet.
- Waiting Approval / Waiting Publish / Rejected: shown when an approval flow is enabled for your account. The content is waiting for a reviewer, approved and waiting to go live, or sent back for changes.
- Published: live version of the content, ready to use in campaigns.
Step 6: Use your content in a campaign
Once published, your content is ready wherever On-Site campaigns are set up:
- Create Campaign: the quickest route. Click the three-dot menu next to the content in the listing and select Create Campaign. A wizard opens to complete the campaign setup with this content.
- Targeting campaigns: go to Campaign > Targeting Campaigns > On-Site and click New to show the content to a chosen audience on your website, with scheduling, trigger settings, and optional A/B testing of content variants (see Targeting On-Site A/B Test).
- Inline Personalization campaigns: use inline content (Inline, Story, Inline Image, Custom Inline) to personalize areas of your website for the visitors you target.
Managing your On-Site content
The On-Site listing shows all your content with its Type (Html or Template), Name, Status, Last Edited On, Last Edited By, and Languages. Click any item to view and update its details.

On-Site listing
- Folders: Keep content organized by sorting it into folders. You can create new folders, rename them, move items between them, copy folder public IDs, and delete folders you no longer need. The Created by me view shows only the content you created.
- Search: Find any On-Site content directly from the listing.
- Filters: Filter by language and by date ranges based on creation date and updated date. Clear Filter removes all applied filters; Cancel closes the pop-up.
- Sorting: Sort by Name (alphabetical or reverse) or Last Edited On (ascending or descending by date).
Item actions
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Create Campaign | Starts the campaign wizard with this content (see Step 6). |
| Edit | Opens the item in editable mode, in the Visual Editor or HTML Editor depending on how it was created. You can also rename the item, view its details via the info icon, and save it as a template, duplicate the template, or delete it from the more-options menu. |
| Duplicate | Duplicates the item directly from the listing. |
| Move | Moves the item to another folder. You can also create a new folder as you move. |

FAQ
I published my content. Why don't visitors see it on my website?
Publishing only makes the content available. To display it, add it to an active Targeting or Inline Personalization campaign (Step 6), and make sure the Web SDK is integrated on your website.
How do I show the same message in several languages?
Use Add Languages on the content (Step 3). Each language version is managed on the same content item.
Can I reuse a design my team already built?
Yes. Save any item as a template from its Edit screen, then find it under Visual Editor > Saved Templates (filter by All or Created by Me) the next time you create content.
