Inbox Preview

This feature allows to view in detail the created email in selected email clients.

Overview

Email Detailed Preview feature uses the 3rd party tool named ‘Email Preview Services’. This tool has its own preview generation principles that do not go hand to hand with D-engage email preview logic and UI/UX flow. So, to seamlessly integrate to D-engage we make the detailed preview in an external page that opens as a new tab/window.

Which steps the client can use the Detailed Previews?

Detailed preview generation is a long process so to lower the performance and user experience impact we only start preview generation and display them on specific pages with specific conditions. These pages are:

Bulk Email Content Create/Edit Page

You can reach this page on the Email Content List Page that can be reached via clicking Content then Email(Marketing) on the left side menu. On the Email Content List Page you can click a content on the list or click the New button and pick one of the Rich Text Editor and Code Editor.

On this page you edit or create content. After doing your changes, you save the content with the Save Draft button. When your content is saved as draft, its preview can be generated. To generate the preview you can click the Preview & Test button to open the Preview & Test Modal.

On this modal there are 4 steps, the first one is conditional. Last 3 steps work and look the same.

Conditional 1st step is Audience for Sample step which is only needed for the contents with customization tags/variables. You can choose an audience to extract sample data for variables. For the contents without customization tags/variables there is no need for a sample.

On the Preview Step (1st for content with variables, 2nd step for content without variable), you can see a simulated preview for the content and Detailed Preview button. When this button is clicked, Detailed Preview Page opens in a new tab/window.

Create Campaign from Content Page

After publishing an email content on the email content create/edit page via Publish button. Create Campaign button on the top right corner will be visible. When this button is clicked Create Campaign from Content Page opens. On this page you can fill necessary fields and continue to the next step which is the preview step. Difference from the Content Create/Edit Page is that the user already selects the audience for the campaign. If preview generation is not triggered on the Preview & Test Modal of Content Create/Edit Page, preview generation starts after the audience is selected on the 1st step .

On the preview step(2nd step) you can see the Detailed Preview button. When this button is clicked, Detailed Preview Page opens in a new tab/window.

Email Node on the Flow Creation Page

On the Flow Creation Page, user starts with an audience selection, so sample data is already available. After audience selection Email Node can be added to the flow canvas. When this node is double clicked you can select an email content and see the simulated preview on the right side and Detailed Preview button at the right top corner. When this button is clicked, Detailed Preview Page opens in a new tab/window. If preview generation is not triggered on the Preview & Test Modal of Content Create/Edit Page, preview generation starts after the email content is selected.

Detailed Preview Page

You can access the Detailed Preview Page via 3 pages/modals mentioned above. This page is only for displaying the already generated previews of email contents, and does not work when opened directly by entering its url to the browser address bar.

On this page there are 3 types of devices: Mobile, Desktop, Web. And there are 5 devices for each type.

If the preview generation is not started for any reason and this page opens, the page does not display any preview and closes automatically after 5 seconds. In this case preview generation needs to be triggered again via editing the content and saving as draft.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. I saved an email content draft. Then I opened Preview & Test and clicked the Detailed Preview. New tab opens and closes after 5 seconds. How can I see the previews for the content?

After saving your content and opening of the Preview & Test modal preview generation starts. For some reason this generation does not start. So technically no preview to show for that content. To trigger a new preview generation, you can edit and save your content again. If you still experience the same issue please contact technical support or development teams.

2. Some device previews show a red exclamation mark. How can I see/generate previews for them?

That device preview failed to generate. Device previews generated by a 3rd party service. This service does not inform failure causes. And, the service does not generate device previews singularly. To see failed device preview you need to trigger preview generation by editing and saving the email content. This will regenerate all device previews together. This may fix the issue, but since we do not have a reason for the failure, the issue may occur again.
